The Duchy of Brunswick-Oels had been an enemy of France for some time before the battle of Waterloo in which battle they are more popularly known. The Duke furnished a strong division composed of three light infantry battalions, three line infantry battalions, an elite "Avantgarde-Leib" battalion, one horse battery, one foot battery, and two cavalry regiments: the Brunswick Uhlan Regiment and the Brunswick Hussar Regiment (subject of the photo above). |
