SPECIAL NOTE: A corresponding series of short sleeve figures labeled as "Pioneers" are suitable as short sleeve artillery gunners. The only difference is that the the "d" series gunners includes a pair of bandoleers for short sleeve cavalry but the "b" series Pioneers do not have the bandoleers. Therefore, "b" series kits 1b, 2b, and 4b, which are walking figures, can be used as artillerymen. Click here to see the Pioneer "b" series. | |||||||

SBG02 - 13 POUNDER GUN | SBG03 - 18 POUNDER GUN | SBG05 - 4.5 INCH HOWITZER |
The 13-pounder gun equipped a cavalry division's horse artillery brigade at the beginning of World War I. These guns were considered too light for trench warfare and the horse artillery brigades were up-gunned to the 18-pounder in the Spring of 1915. |
The 18-pounder divisional gun fired an 8.6kg (19 pound) shell, substantially heavier than its German counterpart. It equipped all of the Regular Army artillery brigades at the start of World War I. By the Spring of 1915, all brigades were so equipped. | The 4.5 inch divisional howitzer fired a 114mm 17.5kg (39 pound) projectile and was well-suited to positional warfare where it could "lob" its HE rounds at a higher trajectory making it an effective indirect-fire weapon. SEE PAINTED MODEL BELOW |

SMG06 - GUN LIMBER FOR 13/18 POUNDER GUN |
This is the standard gun limber for divisional artillery and is a necessary element to correctly depict a 13- or 18-pounder gun drawn by a six-horse team. It was also used in a modified form for the articulated limbered G. S. wagon that was used for transporting supplies up to the front line. |
