HOW TO FIND PRODUCTS

Miniatures are offered for sale as custom-painted figures painted exclusively by George Grasse or as miniatures sold in kit form for you to clean, prime, assemble, and paint.   There are two ways to find a miniature.  If you know the manufacturer, it's best to go to "Military Miniatures by Manufacturer".  This gateway allows you to see all of the miniatures a particular manufacturer currently produces in all scales and historical periods.  If you would rather see just the manufacturers and their miniatures for a given historical period, you need to visit "Military Miniatures by Historical Periods".

Accessories are items used by modelers to enhance figures, vignettes, and dioramas.  Some of these products in conjunction with fillers and sculpting mediums are used to convert figures.  Accessories include groundwork materials, buildings, fences, weapons, headgear, equipment, body parts, and more.  To view the various manufacturers, click on "Accessories".

From time to time, we accumulate excess inventory or acquire used items.  These can be found in "The Attic" and include books, board games, and miniatures.   We recommend that you send email for Attic items so that we can hold them for you, calculate postage, and give you the total cost.  Please advise in advance your choice of payment.

Lastly, "The Showcase", a special section devoted to recently completed "spec" figures painted by George Grasse.  These are sold at a slight discount on a first-come basis.  We recommend that you send email for Showcase items so that we can hold them for you and tell you what the total order will cost.

DISPLAY OF PRICES

Most of the pages you will view display prices in a "Full Color Catalog Webpage Format" similar to a photo album.  Take a moment to view this explanation of the display format and note how prices are displayed.

In some cases, miniatures are listed in table format with the ITEM # field highlighted as a link if a photo is available.  The listing has a number of fields to explain the miniature in words, so you need to visit "Price List Explanation".

HOW TO ORDER PRODUCTS AND METHOD OF PAYMENT

Payment is by personal check, money order, or PayPal.  However, in the case of PayPal, we will add a 3.5% processing fee based on the size of your order.  Although we don't have a shopping cart capability on the website,  for now all you have to do is to  follow the general format of the mail order form in an email to us.  That is, in your email, include for each product its item #, description, quantity, and extended "kit" or "painted" price (if you order more than one of an item).  Calculate the postage using the Postal Charge Table (or leave it blank and we'll calculate it for you).  Provide shipping address information.  If it is your first personal check or PayPal order with us. As a reminder, we do not accept any credit or debit cards.

MAIL ORDER  is easy to use because the format is provided.  First, you need to visit the Mail Order Form page and review how to complete it.  At various places on the form, you can double-click for further information.  Second, you need to print the form.   Third, from the various product lists and pages viewed on this website, you can enter the order information onto the mail order form.  Fourth, you need to sum up the order value, find the corresponding shipping charge (based on postal zones and order value), and calculate the total order amount (again, review the Mail Order Form screen). Fifth, prepare a check or money order payable to "Historical Miniatures" in U. S. funds and mail it to us.

EXCEPTIONS  are items sold from the Attic or the Showcase only because we have to calculate postage.  In all cases for Attic items, please send us email to reserve your purchase and allow us to calculate the total cost with postage.  We will inform you by email.  How to reach us.

POSTAL CHARGES

Postal Charges generally include packaging and shipping charges summarized in the Postal Rate Table.  There are three types of postal charges in effect as explained below.

Where "at cost" is used, you must contact us and we will calculate the postal charge.  Note that this applies to Attic items and all foreign orders.

The "7% FLAT RATE" applies only to Hand-Painted Miniatures for collectors in the US and US Possessions.  The "9% FLAT RATE" applies only to Hand-Painted Miniatures for foreign collectors.

All merchandise shipped to a valid U.S. address including U.S. Possessions has a postal charge for U.S. Priority Mail based on the postal zone of the customer and dollar value of the order.  Postal Zone is determined by the first three digits of the customer's zip code.  Click here to see the Postal Zone Table and find your zone code.  Once you know your postal zone code, you can find the postal charge for your order based on your order value by cross-referencing your zone code with order value amounts.  Click here to see the Postal Zone Charge Table.

CUSTOM HAND-PAINTED MINIATURES

Miniatures range in scale from 54mm to 120mm and are cast in either metal or resin, the latter having become increasingly more popular in the last few years.

Custom hand-painted miniatures are mounted on wood bases as either individual subjects or as vignettes (that include two or more figures). Each base rests on a felt covering on the bottom and includes a small label describing the piece and its serial number.  To date, George Grasse has painted over 7000 figures of which 95% were "custom-painted-to-order" for collectors (these are cataloged kits or kits sent in by customers to be painted).  The remaining 5% are "spec" pieces or miniatures not specifically ordered (these pieces can be found in the Showcase).

Miniatures are generally prepared from stock manufacturers castings as sold by Historical Miniatures. In some cases, stock figures are customized to create original, one-of-a-kind subjects. Some figures are greatly enhanced with special ground work or settings. Customization requires an additional fee over and above the painted price shown in the price lists. In this case, prices are quoted before work begins.  Send your requirements to Historical Miniatures by George Grasse for a quote.
