REGIMENTAL FACING COLORS AND POSITIONS

Uniform components of the jacket that were common for all regiments was the jacket color (dark blue for the line cavalry and yellow for the dragoons), the collar insignia (a yellow rampant lion for the line cavalry and a white crossed sword and feather for the dragoons), trousers (dark buff for the line cavalry and yellow to match the jacket for the dragoons), cuff insignia (fleur de lys for the line cavalry but cuff flaps with four buttons for the dragoons)., and solid red turnbacks for all line and dragoon regiments.

One decorative item common to the dragoon regiments was the button hole lace on the lapels which were white (silver for officers).  Not all line cavalry regiments had button hole lace and the ones that did had either white (silver for officers) or yellow (gold for officers).

Piping around collars, lapels, rear pockets, and cuffs, differed between regiment, there being no standard application other than being unique for each regiment.

The rear pockets of the line cavalry were horizontal with three buttons; the dragoons had vertical rear pockets with four buttons.

All dragoon regiments had white metal buttons (silver for officers).  The line cavalry displayed either white or yellow metal buttons.

Only the dragoons had cuff flaps adorned with four buttons.  The line cavalry did not have cuff flaps but the cuff was surmounted by a fleur de lys.
