INFANTERIE DE LIGNE 1812 - 1815

Image credit is Historex NCO Instruction Sheet HXH003

During the course of 1812, a new uniform was designed to cut down the use of cloth and buttons.  The result was the "habit-veste" a short tailed jacket closed to the waist with full lapels.  Additionally, over-the-knee gaiters were replaced by s shorter version.  All headgear even for grenadiers was standardized in the shako except some units retained bearskins for their grenadiers.  There are three kits available to make the various types and ranks of soldiers in the new infantry uniform.

CONVERSION KITS - each includes extra arms, legs, and details to make one soldier.

Light infantry came into their own in the last quarter of the 18th Century.  By the Napoleonic Wars, the original French Revolutionary War light infantry regiments had grown to over thirty.  Their original purpose was to be included in a division structure so as to be deployed as massed skirmishers where the division commander needed a screen from enemy skirmishers.  By the closing years of the Napoleonic Wars, the different uses of light and line infantry began to merge until light infantry regiments performed more like the line.  It should be noted that every line infantry battalion had a company, one sixth of their force, as skirmishers, called "Voltigeurs".  To make a light infantry soldier for the period 1812 - 1815,  you need the line infantry kit for that period, above, except paint them accordingly.

CONVERSION KITS - each includes extra arms, legs, and details to make one soldier.
